Animal Repellents
Messina Deer Stopper - l & ll
Messina has come up with two formulas that not only stop deer from grazing in your yard, but that actually smell good! Made primarily from essential oils (one is rosemary & mint oil, and the other is cinnamon & clove oil) both formulas are organic and safe for use on all flowers, shrubs, vegetable gardens (just rinse before eating) and ornamental or young trees. The spray dries clear and will not burn plants, but since it is made from oils, I wouldn't spray plants in the heat of the day, just to be sure!
Insect, Mite & Disease Control
NATRIA® Insect, Disease & Mite Control
This naturally occurring pesticide is derived from dried chrysanthemum flowers and provides the 3 in 1 knock-out punch for insects and mites & fungal diseases like powdery mildew. This is a broad spectrum insecticide and will kill most bugs it comes into contact with.
NATRIA® Neem Oil
From the oils of the Neem tree, this spray is great for use on roses, flowers, fruits and vegetables. It controls aphids, whiteflies and spider mites as well as diseases like black spot, rust and powdery mildew and can be used right up to the day of harvest.
Neem is safer for bees and other pollinators because it must be ingested to be effective. Only chewing and sucking insects are affected. However, any oil spray can smother and suffocate insects, so please use first thing in the morning or late in the evening, when the good bugs are least active. That way you won't hit any bees or other beneficial insects directly. The neem oil spray will dry before they land on the plants, and only the insects trying to eat your plants will die. Neem is a natural oil so it can burn plant leaves if sprayed in the heat of the day, so again, early morning or later afternoon are the best times for application.
Harris Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is an off white talc-like powder that is the fossilized remains of marine phytoplankton. When sprinkled on a bug that has an exoskeleton (such aphids, ants or earwigs) the microscopic glass-like sharp edges of the DE cut them up and they dry out and die. But it doesn't hurt mammals. We can even eat it. It’s composed of 100% ground freshwater DE, with no additives. The remains of the fresh water algae making up DE are ground up into a soft, fine white powder that carries many different uses. It’s chemical free and completely safe to use around children and pets. It is most effective when dry, so apply to plants after you have watered for the day.
